Venezuelan President calls for the end of US blockade against Cuba

Caracas, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Thursday called on US government to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the officialization of such a genocidal policy.

“On a day like today, 60 years ago, the US empire, through the signing of a proclamation, implemented the inhuman and criminal blockade against Cuba,” the Venezuelan president posted on Twitter.

Nicolás Maduro asserted there will be no imperial force that can break the morale and rebellion of the Cuban people; “Stop the genocidal blockade!” Mr. Maduro tweeted.

Earlier, the revolutionary government of Cuba emphatically called, on behalf of the people of the Caribbean nation, for the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for over 60 years.

Through a statement, Cuban authorities recalled that on February 3, 1962, then President John F. Kennedy issued the 3447 Proclamation, decreeing a total “embargo” of trade against Cuba, with the justification for a rapprochement with the socialist community.

Since then, the US policy has been tightened as central axis of the strategy aimed at limiting the legitimate right of Cubans to champion their sovereignty and to forge an emancipatory project, alien to imperialist domination, the text stated.

Havana also condemned the blockade has evolved to become the most complex, prolonged and inhuman act of economic war committed against any nation, by hindering commercial relations, financial operations, curbing foreign investment and cutting off all sources of income.
