The Ministry of Health revealed that this subvariant is under analysis and warned that, surely, there will be an increase in its spread during the next days and weeks, but without “additional concern”.
This assessment coincides with that of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), which points out that there is no solid evidence of changes in terms of transmissibility, clinical picture, severity or evasion of the immune response, beyond those already described for the Omicron variant.
Sylvain Aldighieri, PAHO Incident Manager for covid-19, recalled that the distribution and spread of the four Omicron sublineages (BA.1, BA.1.1, BA.2 and BA.3) is an expected event, we will certainly see an increase over the coming days and weeks.
It is therefore necessary to keep in mind that these are the same strain and there is currently no reason for additional concern.
