Argentineans march against Supreme Court

ARgentina, marcha, corte, suprema
Buenos Aires, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) Seeking to change the performance of the Judiciary, Argentinean social organizations and political groups are leading a march against the Supreme Court here on Tuesday.

The mobilization, with which its organizers seek to demand the democratization of the Judiciary, the resignation of the current judges of the Court and the end of the lawfare (judicial persecutions), has also been joined by several unions such as the Argentine Workers’ Central Union (Autonomous).

“There is no full democracy with a hegemonic Judicial Power and co-opted to grant impunity to the economic power and its partners,” the labor organization pointed out.

The organizations will gather in the vicinity of the Judicial Power headquarters to demand the resignation of all four members of the Court, which they consider an unavoidable step for the democratization of the Judicial Power and they will also show their rejection of the persecution of several leaders.

The march arose from a scandal unleashed weeks ago, when a video was disclosed in which officials of the former governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Maria Eugenia Vidal, intelligence agents, business people and judicial officials agreed on strategies of persecution and criminalization of union leaders.

“If I had a gestapo, I would have done it,” former Buenos Aires Labor Minister Marcelo Villegas is clearly heard talking about the creation of a gestapo (Nazi Germany’s secret police) to wipe out several trade unions.

In statements published by Pagina 12 newspaper, social fighter and human rights defender Taty Almeida, from Madres de Plaza de Mayo Línea Fundadora, stressed that the insistence to change this Judicial Power is because up to now it has only delivered injustice.
