During a telephone conversation, Foreign Minister Wang Yi talked to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken about the need to exercise restraint and avoid actions that would further exacerbate tensions.
The Chinese foreign minister proposed to rely on the Minsk Agreements to resolve the crisis, as it is a document approved by the United Nations Security Council and it was recognized by all parties.
Wang also condemned the promotion of “bloc politics”, considered relevant to establish a balanced, effective and sustainable European security mechanism through negotiations and urged to take into account Russia’s security concerns.
Regarding bilateral issues, the diplomat deplored that the United States keeps its policy against China, although the presidents of both nations agreed to make progress in pushing ahead stable, respectful and non-confrontational ties.
Wang called on Washington not to interfere with the holding of the Beijing-2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, stop “playing with fire” over Taiwan and stop creating groups opposed to China.
According to the official note, Blinken said that the White House did not change the position put forward by US President Joe Biden and it is ready to handle the differences responsibly.
