During a virtual meeting with his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Sen, chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Ismail reiterated the call for inclusive political dialogue involving all parties.
A statement issued by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday noted that during their video conference, the Malaysian leader emphasized ASEAN’s position on Myanmar, including the decision to invite a non-political representative from the country to the bloc’s high-level meetings.
Hun Sen was the first foreign leader to visit Myanmar since the military junta seized power from political leaders and sparked civilian unrest and mass arrests.
Recently, Hun Sen invited Myanmar’s junta chief to an ASEAN summit on the condition that progress is made on the Five-Point Consensus he agreed to in April 2021.
