In a speech broadcast on national television, the president said that the reconfigured Government, which will be announced in two days, will not include Lands Minister Kezzie Msukwa to allow him to testify in court for his alleged illegal actions.
According to the president, who previously replaced two other ministers accused of corruption, the decision to appoint a new Executive responds to requests from the governmental Public Affairs Committee, governance and human rights experts, and the Catholic bishops.
After referring to President Chakwera’s commitment to the fight against corruption in this African country, Governance and human rights expert Undule Mwakasungula said that the dissolution of the Cabinet has the support from Malawians.
Since Chakwera took office in 2020, he has repeatedly demanded the judiciary to take action to end the culture of corruption, impunity and theft of public resources by officials and business people.
