Congratulations to Dr. Graziella Pogolotti, so young in spirit, so vital and lucid, so contributing, on her 91st birthday. May the light of her vast and profound culture continue to illuminate the paths of our culture #CubaVive, the president wrote.
Pogolotti is president of the Advisory Council of the Minister of Culture, deputy head of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, member of the Cuban Academy of Language and president of the Alejo Carpentier Foundation. In 2005 she received the National Prize of Literature.
Born in Paris in 1931, she moved with her parents to Cuba at the age of seven, where she studied until graduating as a Doctor in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Havana.
She completed a postgraduate degree at the Sorbonne, and studied Contemporary French Literature. Upon returning to the island, she enrolled in the Manuel Márquez Sterling Professional School of Journalism, where she achieved another degree.
She has written numerous essays, and she has also highlighted her work in teaching and promoting culture, and the training of playwrights at the Higher Institute of Art.
Likewise, she performs management responsibilities in the department of Modern Languages and Literature at the University of Havana, and the research subdirectorate of the School of Letters.
