The Cuban political organization sent a letter to the general coordinator of the PPP, Moisés Carrasquilla, conveying its condolences and describing Sousa as a dedicated defender of communist convictions.
“He will be remembered for his anti-imperialism, political capacity and long history of fighting for the sovereignty of Panama and the social rights of its people,” says the letter, signed by Angel Arzuaga, deputy chief and coordinator of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the PCC.
The Panamanian leader was a sincere and unconditional friend of the Cuban Revolution and a faithful follower of the ideas of the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro.
Even during his last days, Sousa Batista defended his close friendship with Cuba, the letter stresses.
“Our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” the letter concludes.
