Cuba makes progress in social protection of vulnerable people

Cuba, reforzamiento, atención, población, vulnerable
Havana, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuba developed a broad legislative process in 2021 to strengthen social security for vulnerable groups, local institutions highlighted on Thursday.

In the period, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) and other government agencies approved more than 100 legal regulations, including 95 general resolutions and high-ranking laws.

MTSS Legal Director Yudelvis Alvarez wrote on Twitter that among the regulations approved are Decree-Law No. 56 on Working Mothers and Family Responsibility and Decree-Law No. 36, which modify the Social Security Law.

The two laws allowed updating the legal treatment of working mother, for example, the elimination of worked days requirement for the right to benefits and the extension of those laws to grandparents or parents of a child with special care.

As part of the Cuban Government’s actions to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, 596 million pesos had been paid in salary guarantees, covered by the State budget, in the first semester of 2021.

Cuban experts point out that the social security guarantees will be extended with the new Family Code that will be submitted to popular consultation in February.
