Egypt and Algeria reject foreign interference in Libya

Cairo, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) Egypt and Algeria have reiterated their support to a negotiated solution to the crisis in neighboring Libya without foreign interference, an official communique reported on Monday.

During a meeting held in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Algerian counterpart, Ramtane Lamamra, insisted on the departure of all foreign forces and mercenaries deployed in Libya, the text released by the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

Tension escalated in that country after the decision to postpone the presidential elections, scheduled for December 24, due to security problems and differences over several candidates.

Libya has been plunged into a spiral of violence since the overthrow of Muammar al-Gaddafi in 2011, following a war supported by members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, among them the United States, France and the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers also called for greater coordination to improve security, stability and prosperity on the continent.
