Cuban Prime Minister highlights work of judicial bodies

miguel marrero
Havana, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero highlighted today the rigorous and in-depth work of the bodies responsible for dispensing justice on the Caribbean island, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2022 judicial year.

The head of government highlighted the success with which the Cuban judicial system carries out its work, while transmitting a message of congratulations from the highest leadership of the country to its members.

The president of the People’s Supreme Court (TSP), Rubén Remigio, stressed that the administration of justice is one of the activities that maintained its vitality, even in the complex circumstances imposed by the pandemic.

The jurist pointed to the work results of 2021 and the challenges of the period that begins, among which is acting with transparency, professionalism and sensitivity, in addition to overcoming weaknesses that generate complaints and dissatisfaction from the population.

According to Remigio, last year the courts had to process and resolve a total of 138,380 cases, but due to the limitations associated with the pandemic, only 123,662 could be processed and concluded.

Similarly, he pointed to the new organic and procedural laws recently approved in the National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament), which will strengthen the regime of rights and guarantees of the people.

The combative, intolerant and intransigent attitude against mediocrity, lack of ethics and any symptom of partiality or corruption on the part of the members of these bodies should continue to prevail in this institution, Remigio stressed at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the highest Cuban judicial body .

Also participating in the ceremony were the head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Rogelio Polanco; the Attorney General, Yamila Peña, and the Minister of Justice, Oscar Silvera.

The celebration of the beginning of the judicial year constitutes a generalized practice in various countries of the world and in Cuba it was a tradition until the beginning of the 70s of last century.

The exercise was resumed in 2019 as a way to reinforce the transparency and visibility of the Cuban judicial system, inside and outside the national territory.
