The title of the book is “Outline of the history of the United States and Cuba”, and its author seeks to bring Chinese readers closer to the nature of Washington’s policy towards Cuba.
Xu Shicheng said that the book reviews each stage of relations until the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in January 1959 and how ever since 12 US administrations have opted for hegemonic and forceful measures, supported subversion and maintained the blockade to overthrow the Cuban authorities.
The Cuban ambassador, Carlos Miguel Pereira, described the book as an essential and useful work that will help deepen the knowledge about the history of Cuba and the dispute with the United States among the new generations from an objective and panoramic view.
According to Pereira, the book evidences the valuable legacy of many Chinese researchers who are an inexhaustible source of knowledge and clarification on the reality of Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean in general.
Pereira advocated for the new generations to continue exploring these issues, took the opportunity to speak tp the audience about the current scenario of Havana-Washington relations, and thanked on behalf of the Communist Party, government and people of Cuba for the creation of the book.
Other speakers also addressed these issues during the ceremony, with a video in tribute to the work of Xu Shicheng in favor of mutual understanding and the consolidation of China’s ties with Cuba and the region to end the ceremony.
