Covid-19: Israel hits over 48,000 cases, serious patients

Tel Aviv, Jan 13 (Prensa Latina) Israeli health authorities on Thursday announced 48,095 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, accounting for a new negative surge for the country since the start of the pandemic.

Health Ministry specified in a statement that 283 patients are currently in serious conditions, 54 of them are connected to ventilators.

Since the beginning of 2022, Israel´s daily infection toll has exceeded the previous one due to the spread of the fifth wave of infections in the country.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned over the weekend that 2 to 4 million Israelis (out of a total population of 9.5 million) could be infected in the coming weeks.

The Hebrew University, on the other hand, estimated that Israel could reach up to 2 million active cases in just 15 days.

According to the Kan radio station, 90% of Covid-19 cases recently reported are Omicron-infected people.
