On his Twitter account, the Cuban head of State acknowledged that this aid will benefit 11 million people through the production of 200 million doses of home-grown vaccines against Covid-19.
With this budget, Cuba will also be able to strengthen the capacities to develop other drugs, medical equipment and diagnostic kits in favor of the population, according to a press release on the financial institution’s website.
CABEI Executive Director Dante Mossi said that the operation will help to face the health crisis, reduce the risks of contagion with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, and support Cuba’s economic reactivation.
The loan contemplates the strengthening of the infrastructure of the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry by increasing production of injectable antibiotics, parenteral solutions and generic medicines, and includes the acquisition of supplies and medical protection materials to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Among the objectives of the project are to fight the disease in Cuba and in the region, and to achieve higher levels of economic productivity through the development of innovative products of great importance in the context of the pandemic.
