At a meeting of the operational headquarters, held in the city of Almaty, the president stated that the decision was informed to the leaders of the corresponding states (Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan).

Tokayev reiterated his appreciation for the support provided to the nation in recent days and stressed that the very presence of the CSTO contingent in Kazakhstan played a very important role in achieving stability in the country.

He considered that the peace initiative of the group of ex-Soviet countries had great psychological importance to repel the attacks of terrorists and bandits.

The new Kazakh Prime Minister, Alikhan Smailov, assured on Wednesday in his first meeting in office that the priority of his Government is to get the country out of the deep crisis it is immersed in.

He pointed out that the new Government must make the maximum effort to implement the tasks proposed by the president with the aim of raising the quality of life of the population, maintaining economic growth, dealing with Covid-19 and mitigating the damage caused by the riots.

Kazakhstan’s law enforcement agencies have detained more than 1,600 participants in terrorist attacks, looting and other crimes in Almaty, the Command of the city, the largest in the country, reported.

For its part, the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan indicated that the international airport of Almaty will resume its functions this Thursday.
