CSTO leaders will discuss on Monday Kazakhstan crisis

Nur-Sultan, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian announced on Sunday that the leaders of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will discuss the situation in Kazakhstan on Monday.

As the presiding country of this bloc of six former Soviet republics (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan), the Pashinian confirmed to the media that the videoconference will take place tomorrow.

For his part, the Krelim’s Chief Press Officer, Dmitry Peskov, assured that Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the exchange on the latest developments in that Central Asian nation and measures to normalize the situation.

CSTO peacekeeping contingent is protecting a number of strategic facilities in Kazakhstan, President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev’s press service assured today as the situation in the country is getting back to normal.

At a meeting of the operational staff, the Kazakh leader was informed that a group of strategic facilities in the country are under protection of the united peacekeeping contingent of the CSTO (Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan).

According to the statement, the law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces took measures to restore order, legality and ensure compliance with the state of emergency in the regions.

The power structures continue the process of recovery of the localities of the country where disturbances were reported and conduct operations to locate and detain terrorists, collect and document evidence and conduct appropriate examinations.

Law enforcement forces continue to carry out raids to arrest all the leaders and promoters of the violent unrest that broke out on January 2.
