Cuban President stresses the relevance of rigorous home admission

Havana, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today insisted on the relevance of rigorous home admission for Covid-19 patients who do not require hospital care in view of the increase in the number of cases in the country.

“It is vital to rigorously admit home patients who do not require hospital care: a decisive moment for primary health care,” said the president in a message posted on his Twitter account.

According to the head of state, the country must continue its economic and social life, now better prepared than during the previous wave of contagion.

The day before, the government group for the control of the disease stressed the importance of discipline, individual responsibility and the correct implementation of health protocols due to the growing number of cases.

The Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, assured that the vertiginous increase coincides with the characteristics of the Omicron variant of the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus, already sequenced in patients from 11 of the 15 provinces.

“The fact that fewer and fewer people are dying in the country as a result of the disease and that 91.6 percent of the vaccine-eligible population has completed its vaccination plan are unquestionable achievements in Cuba’s fight against Covid-19,” he said.

It is essential to follow up on home admission from primary health care, as well as for those who are sick at home to comply responsibly with the isolation protocol, said Prime Minister Manuel Marrero.

The head of state urged to be alert, avoid unnecessary crowds and comply with the health measures designed, but without adopting unilateral actions in the municipalities that lead to the closure of vital economic and social activities.

According to official figures, 5,219 new patients have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Cuba during the last 14 days.

Of these, 1024 belong to people reported on the most recent day, which means a 47.8 percent increase in the number of cases compared to the previous day.
