President Biden his TV briefing after meeting, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, with the White House Covid-19 Response Team and a group of public health officials.
The Democrat President is expected to put the accent on the significance of wearing face masks, getting vaccinated and also receiving booster doses, as omicron variant has caused increased infection figures nationwide since the last week of December.
From December 11 to 18, the new omicron variant accounted for only 38% of cases in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adding that new data showed how fast omicron variant is spreading across the nation.
For a week, the United States has reported more than 400,000 cases per day, but there is increasingly evidence that the new variant causes a less serious disease than the previous ones.
However, the number of hospitalized children with severe Covid-19 symptoms is skyrocketing nationwide, according to an analysis by NBC News.
The NBC News also said that at least nine states reported record numbers of children hospitalizations, including Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio and Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.
