A statement from the Ministry of Economic Defense and Climate Protection recalls that Germany suspended arms supplies to the Saudi kingdom since November 2018, after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
The current ban expires on December 31st and only excludes the fulfillment of contracts established between Riyadh and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from the restrictions, as per Berlin’s television.
Khashoggi had lived in the United States since 2017 and at the time of his death was working for The Washington Post newspaper, after visiting the consulate in October of that year.
The Saudi authorities acknowledged on October 20th, 2018 that the journalist died inside the US embassy in Turkey.
