Out of total infection numbers reported on Tuesday, mostly (117,093) are from England, where new Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus surge, while the remaining 12,378 cases were confirmed in Wales.

In a separate report, UK´s National Health Service warned about a 38% increase in the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients, compared to previous week.

According to the report, 9,546 people hospitalized were reported at 08:00 local time, even though this figure is still well below the more than 34,000 admissions reported in January.

In spite of increased infections, the British government confirmed on Monday it will not impose more restrictions before New Years´ Eve in England where it is mandatory to wear face masks in closed and indoor places, and to present updated vaccination passport so as to enter pubs, nightclubs and massive events.
