As stated by the UN Emergency Aid Coordinator Martin Griffiths, this historic decision will allow for urgently needed action to save lives and livelihoods in Afghanistan.
Resolution 2615 will allow humanitarian bodies to implement their work and will provide legal guarantees to financial institutions and commercial actors, he said. About 160 national and international entities provide critical food and health assistance in Afghanistan, as well as education, water, sanitation and support for agricultural activities, Griffiths said.
In 2022, humanitarian operations in Afghanistan will be the largest in the world and are expected to reach some 22 million people.
