In an interview with journalist Héctor Bernardo for the publication Contexto, Laborde stressed that Boric’s victory is great news for Chile, Argentina, Latin America and “for all of us who dream and fight for the region to become a pole within this multipolar world”.
The president of the Observatory of Democracy of Parlasur was as observer in the electoral process in Chile.
In this regard, he stressed they were developed in a transparent manner, although -he said- there was some trial, an attempt by the forces of (presidential candidate José Antoio) Kast to seek to cloud the process.
They said that if there were less than 50 thousand votes difference, they would ask to recount the votes one by one. But the overwhelming difference there discouraged any temptation in that direction, he pointed out.
On the other hand, Laborde indicated that after what happened in the electoral processes in Honduras and previously in Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, what happened in Chile confirms there is a trend and shows a search for the peoples who are fighting.
This electoral result and the Constituent Assembly that is working have to do with the struggle of the Chilean people as well as the return of the MAS (Movement to Socialism) to the government of Bolivia, he said.
All this marks a trend to which is added the possibility that Luis Inacio Lula da Silva will be elected president of Brazil next year, he added.
