Presidential runoff begins in Chile

Santiago, Chile, Dec 19 (Prensa Latina) Polling stations opened on Sunday across the Chile to start the presidential runoff, considered the major one in recent years.

Nearly 15 million people are called to elect between two opposing models, represented by Congressman Gabriel Boric, of the left-wing “Apruebo Dignidad” (I Approve Dignity) coalition, and Jose Antonio Kast, proposed by the far-right Frente Social Cristiano (Social Christian Front) alliance.

Polling stations opened at 08:00 hours, local time, and will remain open until 18:00 hours, local time, unless there are voters in or outside the premises waiting to cast their votes at that time.

A total of 46,888 polling stations opened in the country’s different regions, in addition to 249 polling stations set up for Chilean residents abroad, where voting took place on Saturday.
