Preliminary data up to December 13 indicate that 93,733 children were born in 2021, 5,747 fewer than in 2020, and 690 died, Portal stated when addressing the Health and Sports Commission of the National People’s Power Assembly, during the 8th Ordinary sessions of the 9th Legislature, which is taking place in Havana.
In 2020, Cuba reported an infant mortality rate of 4.9 deaths per 1,000 live births, one of the lowest in the Americas, lower than the 5 percent achieved in 2019.
This will continue to be a prioritized program in our country so that pregnant women and children can have a happy development, Portal said.
