The project will contribute to the development of Egypt, making it one of the most important countries in the region in the nuclear field, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said during a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, according to the newspaper.
The first Egyptian nuclear plant built with Russian technology off the Mediterranean coast will come into operation in 2026.
The facility will have four VVER-1200 type pressurized water nuclear reactors, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts and counting with the latest safety systems.
Last month, El Sisi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, discussed over the phone aspects related to the project construction.
