The President spoke for a Common Southern Market (Mercosur) that looks after its own members and peoples as neighbors, and considered a milestone the fact that the bloc has existed for nearly 31 years already, amid difficult conditions.

During his speech to the presidents of the founding countries and associated States, Fernandez stressed that obtaining market openings without assuming obligations impossible to fulfill is key.

Fernandez highlighted the fact that the range of common goals is a broad one, and celebrated the adoption in the Summit of an agreement of cooperation in the sphere of defense as a starting point for an agenda of interests, as a concrete expression of “how we go from a rivality logic to a dynamic of integration and cooperation.”
