SODePAZ (“Solidarity for development and peace” in Spanish), the promoter of the project together with CubaSolar, is a Spanish development NGO and one of the most active in cooperation with Cuba. Said project will allow transforming the power grid of the IFV.
According to a press release, in 2022, CubaSolar and SODePAZ will improve the IFV’s energy efficiency in order to guarantee sustainability in the research and production processes of Cuban vaccines, including those against the coronavirus.
An investment of more than one million euros is planned for the furthering of the program, both for the acquisition of equipment and its installation.
The co-financing of the project of the Andalusian Agency for International Development Cooperation (AACID) and the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID) has been finalized in recent days.
The project includes installing 1,200 solar panels to power up a 300 kWp (kilowatts peak) photovoltaic power grid, capable of producing 1,500 kWh per day, 547 mWh per year, and replacing three thousand fluorescent bulbs for energy-efficient LED ones, and 40 perimeter lamps for 30 LED lamps and 10 photovoltaic lamps.
This will make it possible to reduce by 60 percent the electricity consumption of the Plant 3 of the facility.
