Santa Clara, Cuba, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes called here on Tuesday to achieve food sovereignty by developing essential crops that become part of the basic food basket of the population.

At a meeting with government officials from the central Cuban province of Villa Clara, he analyzed major issues for the nation’s economy such as the improvement of the People’s Power bodies and nutritional education.

Other topics for discussion were the integral and state inspection activity, the preparations for the sugar harvest, scheduled to begin in the second half of December 2021, and the Government’s responsibility for economic improvement, in addition to the new economic actors and the decentralization of powers to local governments.

Vice President Valdes stressed that Cuba will work on a planting program of root vegetables and vegetables so that production can meet the demands from the population and the consequent decrease in current prices.

He stressed that food sovereignty must constitute the primary task of all those who in one way or another are responsible for this important issue for the people’s nutrition.
