U.S. Covid-19 deaths reach 800,000 as delta ravaged in 2021

Washington, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) The United States on Sunday reached 800,000 coronavirus-related deaths, as the nation braces for a potential surge in infections due to more time spent indoors with colder weather and the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.

According to the NBC News, the United States is the nation reporting most deaths due to the pandemic and such a figure may increase as all states update their own statistics.

In addition, it took the United States 119 days to go from 600,000 deaths to 700,000 deaths. It took us 74 days to go from 700,000 to 800,000.

The New York Times, on the other hand, revealed that one in every 100 US people aged 65 died due to Covid-19 and it is currently considered the third leading cause of death in such an age group.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the average number of deaths in the last week was 1,992 – 27.8% higher than that reported in previous seven days.

Despite having enough number of doses available, only 64% of US people (aged 5 and older) have been fully vaccinated, but unfortunately there are still a great number of people who refuse to get vaccinated.

Due to the Omicron variant, local authorities and scientists called US people for getting vaccinated and receiving extra booster dose to increase antibody levels.
