Sudanese prime minister replaces governors appointed after coup

primer ministro
Khartoum, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Sudan's Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdok, replaced all the state governors appointed in October by the coup junta led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, local news reported.

Hamdok’s office tweeted on Sunday saying that the decision was propmted by the political agreement reached between the ruler and al-Burhan on November 21st, as a result of which the former regained his post and the latter remained at the forefront of the Armed Forces and will preside over the Sovereign Council for Transition, the last instance until the holding of elections in 2023.

The Prime Minister decided to dismiss all these people and appointed their replacements in the framework of what he described as a process of reviewing the decisions taken after the coup on October 25th.

Among those named are Al Yateb Mohamed Al-Sheikh as governor of Khartoum, Majdi Ibrahim in the Red Sea, Mohamed Ali al-Tom in North Kordofan, Musa Yaber Mahmud in South Kordofan and Hafez Bajeit in North Darfur. Se suman a la medida con carácter inmediato Basher Mursal Hasabala en Darfur Sur, Mohamed Adam Abdelrahman en Darfur Oriental, Saad Adam Babiker en Darfur Centro y Jamis Alí Abdalá en Darfur Occidental.

The decision is not surprising, as Hamdok announced since his own reinstatement that he would review all appointments made by the military junta.

The agreement was welcomed regionally and globally and rejected by the local opposition. However, international organizations called for justice for those responsible for the repression, which left at least 40 dead.
