Uruguayan transport union condemns police repression
Montevideo, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan Transport Workers' union (UNOTT) condemned the police repression of a peaceful protest demonstration in which a participant was injured by riot munition.

The union issued a statement repudiating “the events that occurred in the framework of the mobilization and the excessive use of force without any justification.”

The interdepartmental bus services sector is locked in a conflict with the business management in demands of a new collective agreement, since employees have not received salary adjustments since 2019, when the last one was signed.

UNOTT declared that “this event, unfortunate by the way, far from intimidating the working class, further reaffirms the struggle carried out.”

It also stressed that it continues “betting on dialogue and collective bargaining as well as understanding in all areas of society.”

It also pointed out that “in the context where these actions take refuge, they should not be part of the normative framework that regulates the mobilizations, for this reason we reaffirm the position of annulling the 135 articles of the Urgent Consideration Law (LUC) in a referendum.

The LUC declares illegitimate “the pickets that impede the free movement of people, goods or services, in public or private spaces for public use.”
