At least 24 tornadoes leave death and destruction in U.S.

Washington, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) At least 24 tornadoes were reported across five states in the United States in the last 24 hours, causing devastation and deaths, while Saturday´s forecasts pointed to more severe weather over the weekend.

Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee all reported strong tornadoes last night, as confirmed by the Storm Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear regretted the likelihood that “we will have more than 50 deaths, if not significantly more, from this event.”

Deteriorating weather conditions will be felt more strongly as tornadoes move eastward, spreading from northern Louisiana to southern Ohio Saturday morning, CNN reported.

According to CNN, a warning was issued for the Nashville area early morning, as “a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located close to Pegram, 11 kilometers south of Ashland City,” moving eastward about 80 km/h.

At least 254,684 utility customers are without power in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana and Arkansas, according to PowerOutage.US as severe storms ripped through the area overnight.
