The president thus endorsed it on Twitter on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day.
“With resistance and creativity we will overcome”, the president wrote in reference to the economic, financial and commercial siege that his country has faced for more than 60 years.
His message comes on the day in which the Island celebrates a series of achievements empowering the population with civic privileges established in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and mostly in the Constitution adopted in 2019 and approved by a vast majority in a popular referendum.
The right to health, education, sports, security and others is part of daily life for millions of citizens in Cuba, which on November 12 was elected by the United Nations General Assembly as a member of the Human Rights Council for the period 2014-2016.
Such appointment is a new recognition by the international community of the significant achievements of the Cuban people for more than five decades, in the area of protection and promotion of human rights.
It also confirms international confidence in Cuba for being a decisive actor in strengthening the Council as an instance of genuine cooperation for the defense of all human rights, without selectivity or double standards, as stated on the occasion by the Cuban Association of the United Nations.
