France rules out joining boycott of Beijing-2022 Olympics

Paris, Dec 9 (Prensa Latina) Education, Youth and Sports Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer on Thursday ruled out that France participates in the diplomatic boycott promoted by the United States to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, scheduled for February 4-20.

“We need to be careful about the link between sport and politics. Sport must be preserved as much as possible from political interference, otherwise, things could go in any direction and we will end up killing all of the competitions,” Blanquer warned in statements on BFM TV.

According to the official, Minister Delegate for Sport Roxana Maracineanu will attend the winter event, boycotted by Joe Biden’s Government, in a decision supported by Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

However, Blanquer added to alleged Western concerns about human rights in China, an argument used by Washington and its allies to affect the image of Beijing-2022 and the Chinese Government.
