For his part, the interim Governor of West Darfur, Khamees Abakar, confirmed that the alleged criminals, who clashed with security forces, attacked 12 residential neighborhoods in Kereinek in the last few hours, Radio Dabanga reported.
The insurgents came in large numbers from several areas, outnumbering the security forces, the source said.
A recent report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees stated that due to a new wave of inter-communal violence in the Darfur region, more than 10,000 civilians had to flee their places of origin.
