According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the world’s most unequal and second most disaster-prone region was hard-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and it is experiencing a socio-economic crisis from which it has yet to recover.
The pandemic left in this geographical area 30.3 percent of the deaths caused by Covid-19 globally, despite that only 8.4 percent of the global population lives in it.
According to the agency, the pandemic had an impact on poverty, displacement, food insecurity and violence in the region, which is why it projected the continuation of humanitarian aid over the next few years, with long-term operations started in 2021.
