Political-judicial crisis in Lebanon remains unresolved

political-judicial-crisis-in-lebanon-remains-unresolved
Beirut, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) A political-judicial crisis in Lebanon on Thursday keeps the government sessions paralyzed and for the moment, the is no solution in sight, analysts stated.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati assured that resolving the dispute depends on the legal institutions and not on the State, and added that “a solution cannot be imposed by means of obstruction or coercion.”

The Lebanese Government has not been in session since October 14, following a crisis over the performance by Judge Tarek Bitar, who is in charge of investigating last year’s devastating explosion at Beirut’s port.

Hezbollah and the Amal Movement are demanding Bitar’s dismissal on the grounds that he politicized the investigation with inappropriate summonses, according to the views of the two political factions.

For this reason, the ministers belonging to those two groups have declined to participate in the Government’s sessions.
