Cuban president analyzes possible scenario over Omicron variant

Havana, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, scientists and experts on Tuesday analyzed the evolution of Omicron variant and Cuba´s scenario concerning the new variant presence.

During the meeting, the Director of Finlay Vaccine Institute Vicente Vérez assured information available on Omicron variant is still limited, although Public Ministry (MINSAP) and institutions will remain alert.

The most important aspect is to follow Omicron transmissibility with respect to Delta variant and take advantage of the time ahead of its manifold mutations, Dr. Vérez added.

According to mathematical forecasts, the incidence of Covid-19 infections and deaths should continue in coming weeks.

In the meeting, the experts analyzed national studies on Covid-19 fallouts in infected patients, particularly those reported as critically and seriously ill.

Dr. Yulmys Rodríguez, from the Havana Diez de Octubre Hospital, detailed the results of studies confirming symptoms such as fatigue, dyspnea and depressive disorders as well as anxiety.

The Cuban president described the experience as positive and called for its generalization nationwide, reaching up to nearly a million confirmed since the beginning of the disease.

Cuba keeps a decreased active cases in last ten weeks, according to MINSAP Minister Dr. José Ángel Portal.
