Asuncion, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) Paraguay has restricted the entry into the country of travelers from South Africa and other African nations, due to a new coronavirus variant named Omicron, Angeles Arriola, general director of Migrations, informed on Monday.

Paraguayans or foreign residents in the country who wish to enter the national territory must comply with a 10-day confinement after arriving and on the fifth day, they will undergo a PCR test in addition to the one they took for the trip, Arriola told Radio Nacional station.

She added that in the last fortnight, three citizens arrived from those destinations, who were identified and are being monitored by personnel from the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare.

Arriola urged the population to remain alert and continue implementing health measures, as the pandemic is not over.

The World Health Organization warned of the high global risk due to the new coronavirus mutation, first detected in South Africa.

Several countries are already implementing drastic measures to prevent the spread of this dangerous strain in their territories.
