Cuba calls for closing gaps between northern, southern health systems

Havana, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Monday called for eliminating gaps between north and south health systems, an action requiring commitment from developed nations, according to Cuba´s Health Minister (MINSAP) José Angel Portal at the Special Session of the World Health Assembly (WHO).

It is pressing to back up nations with fewer resources to create capacities allowing them to challenge other complex epidemiological situations that may arise, Mr. Portal said.

“Joining efforts and wills for the good of humanity is not only urgent, but it is a morally pressing matter,” Portal stressed.

Non coordinated global effort to fight the pandemic worsened its deadly effect, while intensifying structural inequities and global issues, Cuban health minister stated.

Among priorities of the prevailing unjust international order, the human right to health was relegated, leaving serious consequences for global population, he regretted.

Mr. Portal also called for improving the International Health Regulations (IHR), an effective tool for basic capacities of States to prevent important health events.
