President of Cuba reiterates attention to vulnerable population (+Photos)

Havana, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, insisted today on listening, attending to and solving the needs of the most vulnerable people, during a tour of towns in the western province of Artemisa.

The Head of State and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), visited on this occasion -as part of his very frequent tours of the country-, the El Bejerano community, in the municipality of Alquizar, one of the 38 towns considered vulnerable in the province.

There he was able to appreciate the transformations to improve living conditions of the neighbors with the support of State Administration agencies, business systems and the local population itself.

When visiting the Javier Novo primary school, where 80 children study, the president spoke with the government authorities of the town and was interested in the progress of the accountability process of the delegates of the Popular Power to their voters, one of the characteristics of the government system on the island.

He also spoke about the necessary attention that should be given to the aspirations of children and youths in the community and to build facilities for them to play and practice sports, also including a medical cabinet and a store under construction.

Díaz-Canel insisted on the idea, expressed in others of his tours, to avoid accumulating problems in the neighborhoods and ensuring the sustainability of everything that is done in these vital spaces for the country.

He called to link state and private actors in these transformations, promote the participation of the population, generate all possible opportunities for them to issue their criteria and control what is done, and improve, in addition to housing and facilities, the neighborhood environment.

Also in conversation with the neighbors, he insisted that people in vulnerable situations be given the possibility to work, as the most effective and emancipating way to get out of that situation.

In this Friday’s visit to Artemisa, the Head of State also toured a farm of the Alquízar agricultural company, where he shared with its workers about the 63 measures approved by the Government to encourage food production nationwide.

These provisions are considered essential to stimulate the food sector in the country, but they are still making slow progress, although much is expected of their results to satisfy the needs of the population with nationally produced food and reduce imports as much as possible.

According to official data, only in the red soil of Artemisa will some 600 hectares of potatoes be planted in the season that has just begun, one of the most demanded food products on the Cuban table, most of them with national seeds that have shown good yields.

During his visit, the Cuban president was accompanied by the secretary of Organization and Politics of Cadres of the PCC, Roberto Morales Ojeda; Deputy Prime Minister, Alejandro Gil Fernández, and Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the largest mass organization in the country.
