Agreement prevails in meeting of Ibero-American foreign ministers

Santo Domingo, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) The First Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Latin America, concluded today in this capital in an atmosphere of compromise between the participating nations by avoiding divisive issues and favoring consensus.

The foregoing was expressed by Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, in conversation with Prensa Latina, once the conclave in which representatives from 22 countries of the region participated.

Faced with a question from the agency about the assessment of the event, the Cuban minister specified: “there was a true consensus that took into account the interests and visions that Latin America and the Caribbean join together in the Ibero-American space.”

Regarding the most outstanding issues included in the Political Declaration approved at the meeting, the head of Cuban diplomacy stated what was agreed upon has substance and numerous elements of interest.

Likewise, he said, it includes the fundamental positions of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, among them those of Cuba on the respective visions about Ibero-American cooperation and the elements which serve as the basis for the development of the Summits and the heritage that they have allowed to build.

To clarify later: “It is a good statement, it is striking that it contains very valuable and energetic positions against the application of unilateral coercive measures in general, and in particular in times of pandemic, and the recognition of the human damage that these measures are provoking “

Finally, at another point in the dialogue, Rodríguez referred to the election of the new Ibero-American secretary, Chilean Andrés Allamán, and pointed out that the one chosen “is a traditional friend of our country, and this has been important.”

In this way, the meeting between Ibero-American foreign ministers came to an end and closed the preparatory meeting agenda for 2022, on the way to the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government that will be held in this nation and will have as its motto: Together for a Fair and sustainable Ibero-America.
