The visiting president went on to meet with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolín, who was accompanied by the Secretary for Relations with States, Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher.
During the talks in the Secretariat of State, described by the communiqué as cordial, both parties highlighted the historical relations between the Holy See and Lebanon and the important role that the Catholic Church plays in that country.
On the other hand they made reference to the current situation that the Lebanese people are experiencing, especially regarding the political crisis and socio-economic conditions, hoping that justice, the necessary reforms and the support of the international community will help revive the country.
In addition, while reiterating the importance of promoting the concept of full citizenship of each Lebanese, they underlined the importance of peaceful coexistence, so that Lebanon continues to be a message of peace and brotherhood that rises in the Middle East, the statement said.
