Díaz-Canel urges to strengthen People’s Power in Cuba

Havana, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, urged the defense of the concept of People's Power from the communities of the country, the Parliament reported today on its website.

According to that source, in a meeting held the day before with directors of the municipal assemblies of the legislature, the president highlighted the importance of promoting the processes of citizen participation and control, and the operation of mass organizations at the community level.

Work in the neighborhoods is here to stay, not with a welfare approach, but a participatory one; to avoid the accumulation of problems over time, said Díaz-Canel in reference to the national program for the transformation of the most vulnerable communities on the island.

At the meeting, held by videoconference and chaired by Esteban Lazo, head of Parliament, the progress of the third process of accountability of the delegate to his electors in the seventeenth term was examined, among other issues.

Regarding the passage to the new normality of the country, after the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lazo meant that this stage requires a maximum demand of the fulfillment of the established protocols and superior dedication to the dynamization of the economy. The municipality is a fundamental link in this economic battle, from the responsibility it has to guarantee territorial development and to exploit all the productive potentialities so there are greater offers to the population, he added.

Since last November 10, assemblies of accountability of municipal delegates to their electors have been held throughout the country.

More than 17 thousand of these meetings were held until November 18 throughout the island, of the 70 thousand 631 to be held until November 23.
