Corruption surpasses jobless total as Costa Rica’s major issue

San Jose, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) Costa Ricans consider corruption as Costa Rica's major issue, surpassing jobless, according to the most recent survey by the Center for Research and Political Studies of the University of Costa Rica (CIEP-UCR).

CIEP-UCR interviewed 900 senior people from November 17 to 19, with a margin of error of 3%.

27% of those interviewed said corruption is the country´s major issue, followed by jobless (20%), cost of living and economic plight (17%), government mismanagement (11%) and poverty (5.8%).

According to CIEP-UCR researchers, alleged corruption cases -pointing out to state and municipal officials, including 6 mayors – have caused over 50% of population to have worsened their view on local governments and construction companies.

Likewise, 40% of those interviewed now have a worse opinion than before about the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and political parties in general.
