Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, recalled that these elections are purely internal affairs and should not be the subject of accusations or interference by external forces.
He expressed his conviction that the Venezuelan people and authorities are capable of managing the national situation, and advocated that all forces play a constructive role in the search for a political resolution.
According to him, Beijing is closely following the events unfolding in Venezuela and noted that the electoral process passed in a stable and orderly manner.
Zhao responded in this way to the attempts of the Venezuelan opposition and the United States to ignore the results of the vote held on Sunday, when the United Socialist Party of Venezuela won 21 of the 24 federal entities, 20 of the 23 governorates and the mayor of Caracas, one of the most representative and important in the country.
