At the 4th Session of the Committee on Social Policy, Poverty and Gender, attendees said it is critical to draw up a strategy guaranteeing nonstop assistance in order to reduce vulnerability of African economies as continent overcomes the Covid-19 disease.
Held under the logo: “Better progress towards an inclusive and resilient future in the context of Covid-19”, the UNECA-organized meeting was also conducive to promoting programs to empower women.
UNECA, based in Addis Ababa, reported during the two-day session on its efforts in the last biennium related to gender-based equality and other issues, including access to basic services.
According to official sources, 431 million Africans live in poverty, but for UNECA this figure can ramp up even more with no projects aimed at reducing the economic consequences due to the impact of Covid-19.
