According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese authorities made the decision since they believe the political foundation of ties to maintain ambassadors has been destroyed.
It also indicated this is how China defends national sovereignty and the basic rules of international ties, after warning Vilna to assume the consequences.
“We urge Lithuania to immediately correct its mistake and not underestimate the strong resolve, will and ability of the Chinese people to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
Likewise, the diplomatic office reminded Taiwan that it has never been a country, nor will they be able to change the fact that it belongs to China, no matter how much the independence forces distort the truth.
This way, ties between Beijing and Vilna are further deteriorated, after developments last summer when an agreement was revealed on the establishment of the representative office in Taiwan. jg/lcr/mem/ymr
