Cuba ratifies its willingness to strengthen ties with Peru

Havana, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez has today ratified the willingness to strengthen ties with Peru during a meeting with the outgoing ambassador of that nation, Guido Octavio Toro.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, the foreign affairs minister extolled the ties with Peru. “We are willing to continue strengthening the traditional bonds of friendship and cooperation between our peoples and governments,” Rodríguez wrote.

Havana and Lima established diplomatic relations in 1902, interrupted in the 1960s after Cuba was expelled from the Organization of American States.

The two resumed relations on July 8, 1972, a year after the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, visited Peru.

In 2016, the then Peruvian president, Ollanta Humala, visited Cuba to, among other activities, conferred Raúl Castro and Fidel Castro with the Order “El Sol del Perú” (Sun of Peru) for having supported the country during the earthquakes of 1970 and 1974.
