An attempt by the TPLF to take control of the town went sour after a successful coordinated operation by the federal army with the Special Forces, the Popular Force and the Amhara militia.
Thousands of members of the organization were annihilated and the commanders who led the aggression were arrested, the official report added, without specifying the number of prisoners.
So far the Front’s leadership has failed to pronounce itself.
According to another report, in the Afar region, thousands of TPLF fighters tried to take the city of Mille but failed and fled to Bati, a district located also in the Amhara region.
The TPLF reportedly suffered a great defeat, losing thousands of troops to an offensive by the Afar Special Forces, the National Defense Force and the militias.
Since November 2020, war broke out between the Government and the TPLF, once a ruling organization in the state of Tigray, accused of violating human rights, promoting ethnic violence, perpetrating massacres and subverting the constitutional order, among other crimes.
